Overview

In 2006, a dehydrated photojournalist found himself on the outskirts of a Sudanese refugee camp in eastern Chad surrounded by an elderly woman sitting in her feces, a young woman swinging a large steel pipe, and a man chained to a tree. In a low blood sugar moment, he begins questioning the business in which he works, how he got there, and if he can ever live without it. Alternating between journal entries and short stories, McCollester details the life of the freelance photojournalist, covering the day's top news events for an international photo agency, while preparing for a self-funded trip overseas.
