OverviewBecky spent her career on the frontline of child protection, and has rescued children from terrifying situations on a near-daily basis. Although Becky witnessed some horrific events, her courage, optimism and wonderfully warm sense of humour helped her through the most difficult days. But the thing that really kept her going was the children. Over the years Becky became incredibly close to some of the children in her care and in this book she shares some of their stories. There is nine year old Sarah, who comes into Becky s life when she is beaten half to death by her mother s violent boyfriend, and Becky describes the remarkable transformation she witnesses in Sarah after a few months living with a kind and loving foster mum. Then there s Liam, a tall and gangly 14 year-old who has cut himself off from the world after being thrown out of home by his drug-addicted mother when he was just 10 years old. Becky also tells the story of Jade and Jasmine, toddler twins who had been locked in a freezing bare room for weeks on end, with just one filthy blanket to share. Becky tells these stories and many others, where she has been able to intervene and rescue children at risk, really making a difference to their lives. Sometimes these children are so vulnerable it becomes a situation of life and death, and Becky has been there and taken them to a place of safety. Although some of these stories are at times heartbreaking, Becky s courage and determination that no child should be forgotten makes this remarkable book an unforgettable and inspiring read.
