Overview

The authors of this work are Roy Exley, Jeannette Stoschek, and Val Williams. Nothing has been set up or posed in the documentary portraits of people encountered in Albrecht Tubke's photographs. Yet despite their unpretentious portrayal, a sensitive and balanced tension is visible in each picture: here a straightening of the shoulders, there an expectant pause, frozen and held in the black of the camera lens behind which lies another world. Tubke's photographs are intimate documents of the interaction between reality and projection, being and longing, the everyday and the exceptional. In large-scale reproductions, this photo book shows works from the series Citizens, Pulica and Twins.
