A nice introduction to important men and two women who have made significant contributions to the growth of Alaska as they pursued their diverse outdoor-related occupations. --Alaska History Kelly relies on his acquaintance with Alaska for over thirty years, plus contacts with descendants of the legendary hunting and fishing guides who added material including previously unpublished images, and himself mined archives, and on-line resources. Twenty-seven chapters, each about a single legendary outdoor guide ranging in birth from 1873 to 1964, and a concluding chapter with very brief notes about recent people who are 'legends of Alaska's great outdoors' comprehends these legendary people from an historical to a contemporary viewpoint. --Journal of the West
