Overview

IF ANCIENT TREES COULD TALK, WHAT STORIES THEY COULD TELL!! Alamo Tree is a TRUE story about a REAL place. This winner of the June Franklin Naylor Award for The Best Children's Book on Texas History describes the monumental events surrounding the siege and famous battle at The Shrine of Texas Liberty. But the story is told by the celebrity storyteller tree that still thrives in the courtyard of the mission in San Antonio Texas. The events in April 1836 established the enduring model for independence and freedom literally all over the world! But what lessons can children learn from such a grim story? The tree explains that during those dark days there was the love of families, the courage of heroes, the teamwork of citizens from all over the globe, and leadership that ensured their losses were not in vain. The History Tree Series books provide enriching content to the adult reader so that they can share with the little ones who are hearing the tale. The loving guidance of a parent, teacher, or older reader will help the child understand the amazing events in their heritage and where they fit in the story. SO SCROLL TO THE TOP AND CLICK BUY NOW! The rhyming text and beautiful illustrations will make your child want to hear Alamo Tree again and again!

Beautiful stories that make learning about history so much fun! Brilliant! We all loved the Alamo Tree story. What a great way to teach children history, and the lessons learned from history, in a fun and very creative way. I love the stories. I recommend them to all. They are delightful as well as very informative. The creative tree foundation will lend itself to many informative books for young and old alike. It's nice to have books to read with our children and grandchildren that are interesting and so well done. What a beautiful book! It is beautifully illustrated and what a unique approach! It's entertaining and I could see where children will identify and want to learn TX history through trees! Heck, I'm going to look for the tree when I go to the Alamo again!

Author Information

"Tana Holmes is the author and creator of beautifully illustrated and creatively constructed books for children of all ages. She is best known for The History Tree Series, where the story-telling tree asks the young reader, ""If old trees could talk, what tales could they tell?"" The Old Patriarch Tree is set in Holmes' native Wyoming, in Grand Teton National Park. The Dueling Oak relates tales of New Orleans since its founding. Her best-known work, Alamo Tree earned The Daughters of The Republic of Texas' June Franklin Naylor Award for ""The Best Children's Book on Texas History."" The unique use of easy reader combined with ""Reader Guidance"" footnotes helps the adult reader enrich the content as the child's development warrants. Holmes' new series, The NOT Scary Books, use fantasy and familiar experiences to create tear-free, fear-free adventures out of first-time visits. The unknowns of the doctor, the dentist, daycare, and other dreaded outings have changed from fearful, to fascinating and fun. Mrs. Holmes has a background in emergency medicine and public administration prior to choosing a career as a health science educator. Entering her 3rd decade of teaching medicine to high school and college students, she divides her time between teaching and authorship. Home is Houston, Texas with her firefighter husband and two rescue dogs. Her adult daughter and son in law are not far away in Austin.
