Overview

From his humble beginnings, as a trainee mechanic at a West London garage, John Cresswell later discovered his latent talents for the game of business and became a hugely successful entrepreneur. However he still mourns the loss of his first wife and mentor, the raven-haired Laura, to whom he was devoted. Despite a knighthood and a subsequent successful second marriage, to the aristocratic Eleanor, Sir John considers he has never been fully accepted into the British Establishment. The Government has now asked Sir John to lead a large and floundering British State-owned airline corporation. He sees this appointment as being his final opportunity to be afforded the appreciation, recognition and status which he considers his achievements truly deserve.
