Author Information

Alexia Larchen Costuchen is a lecturer at the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain, where she teaches English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to Computer Engineering students. Her research interests address the intersection of emerging technologies and second-language (L2) teaching with an emphasis on motivation, cognition, and creativity. During her predoctoral stage, she was an invited researcher at Malmö University and University College Dublin, where she contributed to projects on game-based learning for L2 vocabulary recall with a focus on spatial environment. Before entering academia, she taught English as L2 in multinational corporations and language schools, frequently dealing with multilingual groups and the challenges of CEFRL testing systems. She currently collaborates on topic coordination and peer-review activities with such academic publishers as Frontiers in Education, IGI Global, Taylor & Francis (Routledge), and Springer Nature. Fahad Ahmed Otaif is an associate Professor of Linguistics with a specialization in Discourse Analysis. He is an academic researcher, writer, and creative translator of ideas who has led and devised innovative initiatives on the use of AI in linguistics and translation. He publishes and writes on topics of applied linguistics, AI technologies, discourse and translation. He is the author of: Otaif, F. A. (2023). Riwayah, a journey into literary translation, and Otaif, F. A. (2025). Last-minute Syndrome in the AI Age. His recent research is mainly focused on how generative AI, as an unprecedented technology, can be incorporated into applied linguistics. He held several positions and presented cutting-edge proposals in this regard, among them is his supervision and design of the Translation Hackathon: Translating Culture in the AI Age sponsored by the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission at the Ministry of Culture, Saudi Arabia in October 2022. He is the Co-editor of this current volume: AI Bots in Applied Linguistics: Practice, Policy, and Creativity.
