Niladri Kumar Mitra graduated in Petroleum Engineering from IIT-Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, in 1972. He is a performance-driven, self-motivated professional with proven leadership, administrative, managerial, and technical skills of over 50 years with ONGC, a major Indian national oil and gas company, Reliance Industries Limited, the largest private sector E&P company, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC), and McDermott. He is vastly acknowledged and credited for putting forward his acquired experience, expertise, wisdom, world view, emerging paradigms, and perspectives in its right earnest to ensure the best energy security for India and worldwide. He was the Director (Offshore) of ONGC Ltd., India, during the initial phase of Mumbai High Development. He is among the few frontrunners in interactive knowledge sharing and mentoring. He has chaired and steered many international and national conferences and has put forward many new technologies and paradigms for oil and gas industries through his technical articles, keynote addresses, and presentations. He introduced new cutting-edge technologies in the industry such as digital process control, intelligent well completion, intelligent platform, and hydrofracturing of high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) well. His first floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) at D1 was conceptualized, designed, and awarded. He was the Chief Operating Officer, GSPC E&P Group, looking after the Development of Deen Dayal Field (DD Field) in the KG offshore basin and he was overall accountable for the oil and gas field, one of the HPHT natural gas Deen Dayal Fields of the KG Basin. He led from the front in designing, construction, commissioning, and operation including designing of HT/HP wells for the first time in India. He served as President (E&P) of Accountabilities at Reliance Industries Limited. His role lies in giving the organization an edge at the offshore front by managing the roles and responsibilities of a complete vertical hierarchy of deepwater offshore assets, including looking after the development, drilling, and completion of D-6, MA field including sub-sea completion. He was the Chairman of the Society of Petroleum Engineers for 7 years. He has authored Fundamentals of Floating Production System, Principle of Artificial Lift, One Mile in Oil and Gas, and Hydro Fracturing of HPHT Oil and Gas Well, which are acclaimed by the oil and gas industry and petroleum engineering institutes. He worked as an adjunct professor in IIT for 10 years.
