Agyptische Geschichte Der 21.30. Dynastie

Overview

The epochs of ancient Egyptian history after the end of the New Kingdom have been neglected for a long time, but that has changed since the 1970s: since then there has been a wealth of text publications, archaeological, art historical, chronological and cultural historical Individual studies on this period are given. This work attempts to provide an overview of the history of the ""Late Period"" in the broader sense, the period between the end of the New Kingdom and the beginning of the Ptolemaic Period. The first phase, the ""Third Intermediate Period"" (21st-25th dynasty, approx. 1080 / 1070-664 BC), is characterized by the fact that Egypt was divided into differently governed and administered regions. In the second phase, the 'actual' late period (26th-30th dynasty, 664-332), Egypt is once again a unified state. Due to the connection to Persian and Greek history, the chronology here is also certain except for a few years, while the chronology of the Third Intermediate Period remains doubtful in many cases. The dates given in Parts I and II are only approximations for the period up to the end of the 25th Dynasty (Taharka) and may be inaccurate by up to 10 years. The purpose of dividing and structuring the book into the individual dynasties and within them into corresponding subsections is to make these periods easier to compare by systematically treating each dynasty in the same way. In addition, the (essential) textual and archaeological sources are compiled and discussed in separate chapters. This makes it easier to recognize similarities and differences and to track changes over time in detail. The ""Materials"" in parts II-V contain detailed lists of the government's personnel: the regents and their families, the officials and the family associations. In many respects, especially when it comes to foreign relations, the non-Egyptian (especially ancient Near Eastern and Greek) sources are particularly important. Part V has therefore compiled translations of those that not everyone will have at hand.
