It provides a comprehensive description and evaluation of agricultural support developments in OECD member countries available and a summary of agricultural policy developments in Brazil, China and South Africa. Support to farmers in OECD countries accounted for 29 per cent of farm receipts in 2005. The current level of support has hardly changed in ten years. Although most governments are now gradually moving away from policies that distort production and trade, these measures remain dominant. Greater efforts are needed to target policies towards clearly defined income and environmental objectives.
