Author Information

Mark Alexander is Emeritus Professor of Civil Engineering and Senior Research Scholar in the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He has a PhD from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. His research interests are in concrete durability, service life prediction, concrete sustainability, and repair and rehabilitation of deteriorated concrete structures. He is a registered Professional Engineer in South Africa. He has published extensively in South Africa and abroad, and serves as a specialist consultant to industry and the profession on concrete materials. Sidney Mindess is Emeritus Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Canada. He holds a PhD degree from Stanford University. His research interests are primarily in cement and concrete technology, with a particular interest in fibre-reinforced concrete and the behaviour of concrete under impact loading. He has published extensively, and is engaged in consulting on concrete construction problems. Mike Otieno worked as Associate Professor and Head of School at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He holds a PhD from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and a First Class Honours degree in civil engineering from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He has a strong publishing record with research interests in concrete durability and sustainability, service life prediction, steel corrosion in reinforced concrete structures, and repair and rehabilitation of concrete structures. He is a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom and engages in specialist consulting on concrete challenges.
