During his 25-year-long career, Pettersson has covered a wide range of international news events: hunger in Ethiopia, civil wars in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Botswana and South Africa. His pictures won praise and awards: World Press Photo, PDN, POY, NPPA, CARE, CHIPP, Unicef Photo of the Year, American Photography, Commarts. He has exhibited several times at Visa Pour L Image, Perpignan and at other festivals and galleries around the world. He exhibited Amazon, a two-person show with Sebastiao Salgado, held at Somerset House, London, in November/December 2011 and later in Dublin.
