Adventures of Charlotte and Henry: The Mariana Trench

Overview

Big Places. Brave Hearts. Adventures of Charlotte and Henry: The Mariana Trench is a STEM-focused early chapter book for emerging readers in Grades 1-3, designed as a bridge between picture books and traditional chapter books. When Charlotte and her loyal pup Henry discover a mysterious glowing book beneath a couch cushion, they are swept seven miles below the ocean's surface-to the Mariana Trench. Along the way, they encounter bioluminescent creatures, deep-sea environments, and real-world explorers who help Charlotte discover that bravery isn't the absence of fear-it's choosing to keep going anyway. Written in lyrical, accessible prose with short chapters and black-and-white illustrations, this story supports developing readers while introducing foundational science and exploration concepts. Educational Features: - Introduction to ocean zones and the Mariana Trench - Bioluminescent animals and deep-sea ecosystems - Real-world explorers, including Jacques Cousteau - Ocean conservation and environmental awareness - Embedded discussion questions and STEM + SEL connections Ideal for: - Independent readers (Grades 1-3, ages 6-9) - Classroom read-alouds and guided reading - Elementary STEM and SEL curriculum support - Homeschool enrichment and literacy development With a focus on curiosity, resilience, and discovery, this book is well-suited for classroom libraries, school collections, and young readers transitioning into chapter books. Because even the deepest trenches begin with one brave step.

Reviews

""⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book was an absolute HIT with my boys and niece! From start to finish, they were completely captivated. The adventure is exciting, the facts are woven in so fun and seamlessly, and the length is PERFECT-just right to keep them engaged the whole time without losing interest. It has such a magical vibe-like Shel Silverstein meets Magic Tree House-which made it extra special to read together. The themes of bravery really stood out, with simple but powerful lines kids can actually remember, like ""Big places need brave hearts"" and ""Stay calm, big breath."" And the cherry on top? The reading comprehension questions at the back! They were spot-on for their age-thoughtful, engaging, and just challenging enough to keep them thinking and involved even after the story ended. We loved everything about this book-highly recommend! Can't wait for Charlotte and Henry's next adventure!!"" ""This is a really sweet adventure story for young readers. The cover is beautiful and immediately draws you into the story. I enjoyed the ocean facts woven throughout the book. The theme of bravery is a great message for kids. The perfect read for children who enjoy adventure and learning about the ocean."" ""It is a well written and easy to follow book focused on adventure and learning. I especially liked the ""Ocean Facts"" placed in various chapters. Introducing real characters such as Steve Irwin and Jacques Cousteau was a pleasant surprise. This is truly an educational read for children and adults."" ""Just received this wonderful book to share and read with my granddaughter! The pictures of the characters are bright, cheery, and inquisitive and go well with the storyline! I would highly recommend this book and looking forward to reading this book over and over with my granddaughter!!"" ""It's a great story and could be used as an introduction to oceanography for the little ones. There are many topics a parent could expand on further outside of the book."" ""What a great read, my heart was warm with adventure. I can't wait for this series to continue.""
