OverviewThis dissertation addresses the integration of the domain modeling approach, Merode, with the process modeling language BPMN, focusing on three key quality dimensions: abstract syntax, concrete syntax, and semantics. In modeling languages, abstract syntax defines the possible elements of a model and their interrelations, as represented in a meta-model. Concrete syntax specifies how these elements are represented. Semantics convey the meaning of each element and their relationships. Addressing this integration challenge supports the development of tools for modeling and code generation or model execution that combine Merode and BPMN models. In 2025, this dissertation written at KU Leuven won the CAiSE PhD Award, granted to outstanding PhD theses in the field of information systems engineering.
