Overview

This publication is the sixth in a series of edited volumes presenting research in the field of employee participation and labour management. The volume covers the themes of employee ownership and employee participation in transition economies, the effects of employee profit-sharing schemes on business performance of enterprises, the theory of labour-managed firms and co-operatives and the role of social enterprises in the welfare state. The papers consider these issues both from a theoretical and an applied perspective, taking examples from both Western Europe and the post-socialist economies of Eastern Europe. There are specific studies of experiences in Albania, Britain, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Poland, Romania, Russia and Sweden. All the papers seek to make significant advances in the study of various forms of participatory and labour-managed firms.
