OverviewThe Tenth International Symposium on Superconductivity was held October 27-30, 1997, in Gifu, Japan. Convened annually since 1988, the symposium covers the whole field of superconductivity from fundamental physics and chemistry to new applications. This year there was much discussion on the unique properties of cuprates such as the non-Fermi liquid normal state, spin-charge separation, spin gap, and d-wave symmetry, as well as the latest exotic materials. The potential of YBCO bulk materials was demonstrated by the development of a working flywheel, while a cryocooled magnet made from Bi wire achieved remarkable results. Other applications include the production of SFQ logic devices, Josephson junctions, SQUIDS, and microwave devices. For the first time, a section was added on the standardization of tests and measurements for superconductors. This volume is a valuable resource for all those working in the field of superconductivity.
