Author Information

Alan Rogers, a previous Secretary General of the Commonwealth Association for the Education and Training of Adults, is a Visiting Professor at the School of Education and Lifelong Learning at the University of East Anglia and at the School of Education at the University of Nottingham. Author of a number of books on adult education and international development, he has wide experience of working in many countries of Africa and Asia. Brian Street is Emeritus Professor of Language in Education at King's College, London and Visiting Professor of Education in the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania. He has a commitment to linking ethnographic-style research on the cultural dimension of language and literacy with contemporary practice in education and development. Over the past 25 years he has undertaken anthropological field research and been consultant to projects in these fields in countries such as Nepal, South Africa, India, USA and the UK. He has published 25 books, many co-authored or co-edited, and 120 scholarly papers.
