Overview

As many aspects of the food system's sustainability occur between the production and distribution of foods, the importance of consumers as a primary driver for effectively integrating sustainability efforts cannot be forgotten. This Special Issue on ""Adopting Sustainable Dietary Patterns: Effects of Food Labeling, Food Choices, and Eating Behaviors"" presents data across relevant themes that aim to contextualize factors that can assist with the integration of one or more domains of sustainability in food choices and dietary patterns. A range of topics are discussed that highlight approaches for sustainable food systems that are underpinned by the needs of consumers and their food environments; while aligning with global objectives around health and nutrition, ecosystem preservation, economic prosperity, and social equality. The specific themes that emerge within the compendium of research in this Special Issue include the following: 1. The examination of the sociodemographic characteristics of food environments; 2. The nutritional profiling of plant-based diets and targeted consumer needs; 3. The role of policy and regulatory modernization in changing food behaviors; and 4. The importance of consumer beliefs and value systems that affect food choices.
