Kesan is Professor and Director of the Program in Intellectual Property and Technology Law, and Mildred Van Voorhis Jones Faculty Scholar at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Barbara Russo is Associate Professor of the Faculty of Computer Science and member of the Center for Applied Software Engineering at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy.
