aDiøs Padre / Goødbye, Father

Overview

-------------------------------------------------- The poems collected in GoødBye Father demonstrate, without embellishment, the tenderness of a fragmented man, someone who tears his garments and does not presume infallibility, but rather the longing for a father's arms that ""never reached the cradle."" There is an absent man who overflows through the bleeding wound of these pages. With his exceedingly long distance, he seals the memories of a child who today is mature, furious, and shattered, and who, despite everything, cannot help but love him while bidding farewell to that shadow. Julio Antonio Molinete has the power to transform nostalgia and reproach into a powerful admonition. In his verses groan the most intimate fractures, but there also emerges the backdrop of a greater pain, located in figures and macho incongruities stemming from the political environment. Behind the abandonment, he is sustained by love and the vigorous female forces that sheltered him, overcoming the one who ""left his own well without a reel."" There are unsuspected premonitions in the texture of this poetry collection, curtailed distances and, above all, the grace of a verse that flies soaring through sadness and any possible threatening solitude. -Iliana Rosabal-Pérez
