Overview

ADDICTUS POETICA VOLUME 3 continues the concepts of the previous works to support individuals with substance use disorder their families and anyone touched by the complications of addiction. Dr. Allen has been using these works in group therapies to evoke emotion, passion, love, understanding, forgiveness, gratitude, spirituality, and many other life emotions. Many individuals turn to drugs to separate themselves from overwhelming unsolvable life problems. Having dealt with many of those same problems in his journey has enabled him to understand, to accept, to teach, and to support those individuals and their families who suffer with various substance use disorders. There are many reasons for the development of addiction and dependency on many prescription and non prescription drugs. The medical profession itself has been responsible for overprescribing addicting substances without proper direction and knowledge of long term side effects. Many physicians have become an adversarial toward those individuals they have treated without accepting any responsibility or assistance to those who have become dependent or addicted. Turning our backs on these problems does not make them go away. On top of that wrong the criminalization of this disease is a blight on our government and plain old common sense. These individuals are treated worse than lepers and the legal system treats them akin to the Salem Witch Trials. Our culture has a long history of discrimination toward people with disease, people of color, and almost anything they do not understand nor do they try.Through his use of poetry, art, and music Dr. Allen shows them their value and worth to themselves, their loved one and those who persecute them out of anger and ignorance. His emphasis on Spirituality is paramount in his teachings. We all deserve the right and means to live life to the fullest. We all fight a War Within and we all have an evil twin. Let us move out of the Dark ages into the Light of love, acceptance and healing. God is not dead. Addiction is evil.
