Overview

This work is organized in two sections: The first section deals with the design of an ADC for PMIC applications, and the second section introduces a symbolic small signal analysis tool developed using Matlab. The state of the art and unique problems related to the PMIC ADC are reviewed in the first section. The design procedures of a high input signal range PMIC ADC together with its measurement results are provided. The manuscript contains the details of the design related to high voltage signal processing as well as associated device reliability issues. The designed ADC achieves an input signal range that is twice its supply voltage and its architecture is unique in terms of allowing the designers to increase the converter resolution by increasing the most significant bit. The second section reviews the state of the art in symbolic circuit analyzer software and introduces a new tool that is capable of extracting linear as well as nonlinear transfer functions of the circuit/system analyzed. The Matlab Simulink and Cadence Virtuoso interfaces make it really useful to the analog circuit designer as well as to system designers.
