Adam's Illustrated Guide to Rye (with Map): Winchelsea, Northiam, Camben-On-Sea, and All Places of Interest in the Neighbourhood (Classic Reprint)

Overview

Excerpt from Adam's Illustrated Guide to Rye (With Map): Winchelsea, Northiam, Camben-on-Sea, and All Places of Interest in the Neighbourhood As each generation passes, such interesting old Towns as Rye gradually lose their old-world character. It is the constant aim of the above Committee to minimise this alteration as much as possible, and assist in preserving unchanged the Antiquarian Interest of Rye. The Fund was established in 1894(Rates not being available for the purpose) and has been liberally supported in the locality, and by Artists and Archaeologists in all parts of the kingdom, thus enabling the Committee to spend some hundreds of pounds on preservative work at the Land Gate (see page 70), and the Ypres Castle (see page 65). Three past Lord Wardens of the Cinque Ports have been Presidents of the Committee, and A. Hessell Tiltman, Esq., F.R.I.B.A., is the Honorary Architect.
