SMALLMAN began work as an aerospace design engineer (B.S., John Brown University 1962) but being called to missionary service attended the Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div., 1967) where he studied under Dr. Marchant King. Bill and Doris served with Baptist Mid-Missions (Cleveland OH) in Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil 1970 to1979, and then in the administration of BMM until retirement in 2009. During those years he completed the M.A. in Communications/ Intercultural Ministries (Wheaton, 1980) and the Doctor of Missiology degree (TEDS, 1985). Prior publications include Missions in a New Millennium (Kregel Publications, 2000 as co-editor and author of two chapters), Able to Teach Others Also (Mandate Press / William Carey Library, 2001), and A Missions Toolkit for Local Churches (BMM, 2014) along with numerous articles and book reviews.
