Patel, MD, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies, Kalamazoo, MI -- The authors and editors possess impressive collective expertise in the field. The book is well illustrated throughout, and the references are adequate and up-to-date, ranging from 1928 (Martland HS. Punch drunk. JAMA. 1928;91:1103-1107) to numerous 2006 references that include original research, systematic reviews, and books. In reading through this reference work, one finds a remarkable lack of typographical errors-I only found a reference that was dated 1895 instead of 1995. Overall, I believe the editors have succeeded in achieving their stated objectives. This book provides a comprehensive coverage of sports medicine for the sports medicine physician. Its usefulness for the primary care physician not specifically trained in sports medicine will likely vary depending on personal experience and interest in athletic care. When I was studying for my CAQ examination in sports medicine, I read the book's first edition (1993) and found it useful...I believe the second edition will be equally useful for those studying for the CAQ examination...I highly recommend this book for all physicians providing care to those engaged in physical activity. -Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
