Overview

A town within the borough of Hyndburn in Lancashire, Accrington is situated close to the River Hyndburn and is near to Blackburn and Burnley. Once a centre for cotton and textile industries, in recent years Accrington has been congratulated for its successful contribution to brick production. Home to the 'Accrington Pals', who were a local battalion of volunteers who were formed to fight during the First World War, the town is also known for its many retail outlets, bursting with customers. With rail links in and around the town to other areas within the UK, Accrington deserves its place on the map and the huge popularity it retains from residents and visitors alike. The group is built around the idea of a 'virtual museum', dedicated to presenting the history and heritage of the constituent townships that make up the modern borough. They achieve their aim in providing a single, coherent online resource for all those interested in the history of the area. There is a wide range of expertise spread across the group, including experience in writing for publication, working in Higher Education, and working in proofreading and marketing.
