OverviewRecognising in the city of the past the origin of our history has enabled man, as an individual or as a collective, to keep alive the feeling of belonging to the environment he inhabits. This particularity of memory led to the study of the absent architecture of the Historic Centre of the city of Pelotas (RS) Brazil. Through iconographic and written records, this study rescued the missing architectural heritage in the Historic Centre of Pelotas, indicating its constructive replacements and promoting the reconstruction of the city's urban data. The construction of this built memory focussed its investigation on the buildings around Praça Coronel Pedro Osório, and took the year 1835, the date of the municipality's elevation to the category of city, as its landmark. The development of this constructive recovery led to the preparation of the Inventory of Knowledge of the Absent Architecture of the Historic Centre of Pelotas, which is the second volume of this book. This tool enabled the identification of four distinct time periods. It was from the delimitation of these four time periods that the built history of the city of Pelotas could be described.
