Overview

As one moves into and through mid-life, many new chances for growth occur. Sometimes older thoughts, feelings and emotions lose their intensity and fall away like autumn leaves dropping from a tree. Other emotions and feelings may be difficult, and take time and effort to process before they can be discarded. Still others evolve and mature in a positive way. Their significance can be recognized and appreciated with more clarity. This appreciation sometimes happens on an annual basis, like at the end of each year. Evolving through the changes in the seasons of life allows new growth to emerge. Abscission is a collection of poems that tends to express a similar evolution as the author moved into and through mid-life. Some of the poems are simple, day-in-the-life recollections. Other entries delve into an appreciation of other people and their influences, as well as deep emotional contemplations. The poems range from cheerful holiday verses to dark internal struggles.
