Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston. Goodwin's portrayal of Lincoln in ""A Team of Rivals"" revealed a multifaceted character: tough but tender, humane but principled, funny but focused. Fascinated, Deborah decided to devote her time and attention to Abraham Lincoln exclusively. In 2023, Deborah traveled from Colorado to Springfield, Illinois, to provide tours at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site and the Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site. This hands-on experience allowed her to immerse herself in Lincoln's history and share it with others. She returned to the Lincoln Home in 2024, and hopes to visit often in the future.Deborah's interactions with visitors from across the country and around the world at the Lincoln Home, where Abraham and Mary lived for seventeen years, inspired her to write a book. She noticed people were most interested in the personal stories that revealed the man behind the legend. They loved the small details that brought him to life and made him relatable.Since kids often asked the best questions, she decided to target middle and high school students.
