Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. He has degrees from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Ph.D. in American History from Kansas State University. He was a researcher on the A&E television program Biography - Dwight D. Eisenhower and has contributed writings to the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, The Military-Industrial Complex and American Society (2010), and Encyclopedia of the Cold War: A Political, Social, and Military History (2006). He has received research grants from the University of Arizona and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library in West Branch, Iowa and a teaching grant from the University of Michigan.
