Overview

Roland Morant's book on the medieval monastic buildings of Lincolnshire fills a significant gap in books about the surviving monastic buildings in Lincolnshire and includes information relating to all parts of the county in a single volume. It is illustrated with numerous photographs, illustrations, maps and site-plans together with a glossary of architectural terms. Abbeys and Priories of Lincolnshire Past and Present will appeal to the enthusiastic general reader who enjoys visiting and reading about places of historical interest. It will also be of interest to students of history including those pursuing an interest in their own local history.

Author Information

Roland Morant has spent a lifetime in education. After leaving school, he completed his personal studies leading to a degree and professional qualification in teaching (PGCE). He taught for about twelve years in secondary schools. In the second part of his career he worked at Crewe and Alsager College of Further Education where he trained students to become teachers and serving teachers in in-service studies. Since boyhood, Roland Morant has always been interested in churches and other religious buildings and he would visit them on his bicycle, touring the county of Surrey where he was brought up. As an educationalist, he wrote many articles on aspects of education and published two books on in-service training. Not surprisingly, his interest in writing led him into writing about church buildings. Before retiring, he wrote two books on ecclesiastical buildings, as well as several articles. This authorship continued after he ceased to work full-time. Since retirement he has written three books on various aspects of the history and architecture of church buildings in this country.
