OverviewTwo people living in a camper for a year can generate a lot of unexpected heat. The author left Boston with her husband in June 2001 for a year of wandering around North America in an RV. They planned to take a break and play at retirement before finishing up their careers. Of course it wasn't that simple. National and family tragedy, death and homesickness combined with freedom, adventure and joy to dislodge her from many of her previous convictions and assumptions. They crossed the continent four times and lived in places that ranged from pricey Sunbelt resorts to a free dusty field in the Navajo Nation. They visited places they knew they wanted to see and some that they had never heard of before. They struggled with vehicles, loneliness, and living in tight quarters while having no schedule to keep. By the time they returned home, nothing seemed as it had when they left. This book is about the journey.
