OverviewI am a writer. People often ask what type of writing? Books? Short Stories? Memoir? Essays? Poetry? My answer is, all of them. I write poetry when I am inspired by a topic. It could be something in the news, or something personal in my life. I never sit down at my desk and decide to write a poem. Something has to speak to me beforehand. I can go a year without writing a poem. The poems in this book are from the last twelve years. Many are serious and on controversial subjects. 'Continental Divide' is about how our country is divided on the topic of abortion. 'The Sentinel' is from the point of view of the tree as it watches other trees being chopped down. 'Holy Man' is about how we search for meaning. Other poems are serious, but on a personal level. 'Ode To Beethoven' and 'Listen' are about the loss of hearing . 'Remember' is from the point of view of a homeless man living under a freeway overpass. 'Calling Capper Nick' mixes the Star Spangled Banner with football lingo. Other poems are more lighthearted. 'Today' is about the joy of being alive at the moment. 'Sunshine in the Rain' is about love and finding joy when times are dark. Each poem has an image attached. Enjoy!
