Author Information

Author Roger Isom is a public health professional trained in physical activity program design and evaluation. His story ideas come from deep reflections of childhood memories and current events influenced by the Black culture, history, and politics of living in the Washington, DC, region. Roger believes that physical activity has far-reaching benefits beyond physical health concerns and that human movement yields positive benefits in all areas of health and well-being. He founded Walktime Books to reimagine physical activity as expression, culture, and community through storytelling. A Walk Through Memory Lane is his debut children's book. Courtney Lovett received her BFA in visual arts from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. With her passion for stories and her love for kids, she has since pursued a career in illustration. Her past works include self-publish titles Jocelyn Learns to Dance and Look What God Made, and industry titles Join the Club, Maggie Diaz; Santa's Gotta Go; and NBA all-star Chris Paul's Basketball Dreams. Born and raised in Maryland, her work reflects her heritage and upbringing as she seeks to create uplifting stories from underrepresented perspectives. When she is not illustrating, she teaches at a local art studio in her hometown.
