Bryn Fields returns to the village with a plan to make it a theme park for American tourists, the ultimate authentic English village. Unsurprisingly, this does not go down too well with the locals, and nor does Bryn's wooing of his estranged wife who owns the pub. Meanwhile the Vicar's 11-year-old twins are asking about their real mother, and the local plague pit is being excavated - this latter with highly entertaining results. In contrast the heartache felt by the Vicar and his wife over telling their children about an indiscretion years ago is so delicately handled that the reader really feels involved with the characters. This is an engaging and not-too-serious read which will be enjoyed by existing fans of Turnham Malpas and should encourage new readers to enter into the trials of its characterful inhabitants.
