Over the last 20 or so years, Marjorie (Midge) Bakos has written articles for The Cornerstone which is the Stone Church newsletter. This book is a compilation of her original writings and contains a wide assortment of bits of history about the establishment and early development of Hamilton College, the people and events connected to the founding and expansion of Stone Church, and the settlement and growth of the Village of Clinton. A careful and exacting researcher, Midge checked and carefully documented facts before including them in her articles. This dedication has resulted in a treasury for readers. Rather than only being a careful retelling of familiar stories, A View from the Steeple offers lively and interesting nuggets of new information and viewpoints regarding what really occurred as this part of the Mohawk Valley was explored, settled, and changed.
