OverviewA Vampire's Journey is a social and historical journey for both vampire enthusiasts and readers who have no interest in fantastical tales. An array of fascinating fictional and historical figures characterizes this epic tale. Rey Ibarra, Spanish-born and raised in England, is indentured to Grubb, Esq., a sleazy solicitor with his own practice in London, at the age of ten. Fourteen years later, Grubb meets Ibarra's love interest, and he convinces her to marry him, plunging Ibarra into a spiral of anger and gin, making Ibarra untenable until he is dismissed from Grubb, Ltd. In 1895, when he was twenty-seven, Manon, a beautiful vampire, rescued Ibarra from poverty and despair by making him a vampire. A vengeful Ibarra turns Grubb into an insect-eating toady, ironically tying them together through the book. Ibarra adapts quickly to his new life and wealth. His hunger for knowledge and to master the piano sets him on a path to redemption. The Vampire's Curse takes Ibarra through the Edwardian Age, as an ambulance driver in World War I, the Spanish Flu, Paris of 1920, and the artists of that time. Their stay in Paris is cut short when he and Manon are suspected of two mysterious deaths by the Paris police. During the Jazz Age, he meets Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald and becomes lifelong friends with Scott. Ibarra's aptitude for music immerses him in the Jazz Age and the Harlem Renaissance, where he is befriended by Chick Webb, the King of Drums, and comes to know Ella Fitzgerald. However, he must return to England before another world war begins. A Vampire's Journey Through the 20th Century is the journey of one vampire's search for love.
