OverviewIn 1943 a Kodak Brownie box camera captured an instant in time when a B&O railroad steam locomotive raced through Octa, Ohio. It is a snapshot of that moment. But time raced by as the number of witnesses has declined and there is no written record to tell the story of how kids spent their time there from 1940-1953. It was a unique period and setting, and in stark contrast to life in urban areas. This narrative is told within the framework of the birth of the village in the late-19th century, how transportation made it a hub of commerce for the village and surrounding farming community, and how transportation, electricity, technology and other emerging influences diminished its importance. Transportation may also influence its rebirth.
