A Tartan Love

Overview

Lady Isla Kinsey knows that the animosity between her family, the Dukedom of Grayburn, and their distant kinsmen, the Earldom of Northcairn, is the stuff of legends. Therefore, falling in love with a son of the enemy house would be apocalyptic. So when Captain Tavish Balfour, second son of the Earl of Northcairn, returns home after Waterloo, Lady Isla is determined to resist his allure. Granted, the not-falling-in-love part would be easier if Isla and Tavish weren't already married. Captain Tavish Balfour has cashed out of his military commission and is ready to start a new life. But there is the pesky matter of his marriage. As teenagers, they tied the knot of their handfasting--an ill-advised decision he has regretted ever since. Thankfully, Scottish law allows for divorce. Unfortunately for Tavish, Isla is as captivating and lovely as his memories recall. As for Isla, she fears Tavish will reawaken the unconventional woman she was becoming all those years ago. Yet even if they were to fall in love again, what could come of it? The history of acrimony between their families still casts a long shadow, and the forces that shredded their love in the past have not changed.

Author Information

Nichole Van is a writer, photographer, designer, and generally disorganized crazy person. Though originally from Utah, she currently lives on the coast of Scotland with three similarly crazy children and one sane, very patient husband who puts up with all of them. In her free time, she enjoys long walks along the Scottish lochs and braes. She does not, however, enjoy haggis. Mhairi Morrison is a classically trained actress, having attained her BA in theater from The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, in Glasgow, before studying movement and mime at Jacques Le Coq, Paris. Following her training, she formed a theater company, performing as a clown throughout France. Moving to London, she began working in theater, film, and TV. Her feature film credits include Young Adam (directed by David Mackenzie and starring Ewan McGregor), Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself; O, Jerusalem; and Green Street Hooligans (starring Elijah Wood). Her TV credits include Murphy's Law and Casualty (both BBC), Missing (ITV), and Emo (Channel 4). Her theater credits include Blues for Mister Charlie (Tricycle Theater, London), Faeries (Royal Opera House, London), and Low Life (Blind Summit). Since moving to Los Angeles, she created and starred in two seasons of the award-winning web series Feathers and Toast. She performs mimes which she produces and distributes online as the series One Mime at a Time. She works extensively in voice-over and is an award-winning audiobook narrator, having won an AudioFile Earphones Award for her narration of Amanda Scott's The Reluctant Highlander.
