Reviews

In this welcome addition to Little Big Horn literature, Todd Harburn makes accessible again the insightful diary and letters of James DeWolf, a civilian surgeon who perished with Custer. DeWolf had a keen eye for detail, and these documents enrich our understanding of his tragic story. Harburn, a distinguished surgeon himself, expands our understanding of DeWolf's personal history and the medical profession of DeWolf's day.--Paul L. Hedren, author of Powder River: Disastrous Opening to the Great Sioux War
