"THE PROBLEM UNDER INVESTIGATION: About six and half decades have passed when India got independence, but the women are lagging far behind from holding true power in the society including the area of decision making. Since women constitute half of the total population of the country, it is necessary that they should have equal share in the matter of decision making. If we make a critical survey of the entire process it would become clear that women are in fact, a deprived section of the society. It is therefore of utmost importance that the women should be given power so that they can come at par with the male population of the society. Empowerment literally means ""to insert with power."" In the context of women empowerment the terms have come to denote women's increased control over their bodies and environment. Empowering women implies enabling and strengthening women as a valuable member of the civil society. Women's empowerment is not a northern concept. Women all over the world, including countries in the south, have been challenging and changing gender inequalities since the beginning of history. These struggles have also been supported by many men who have been outraged at injustices against women and the consequences for society. It would be yet another instance of imperialism. To say all these women and men did not have minds of their own,"
