A Stringy Situation

Overview

In this imaginary tale, it is not unusual for inanimate objects to assume life forms, act as though they were humans, or even interact with humans. The story begins with a couple, Mr. and Mrs. String, who are spending a special evening at home. Little do they realize the perils that lie ahead... A Stringy Situation is a fantasy tale written by writer Dora Gray, Ph.D. This chapter book was originally part of Dr. Gray's thesis leading to her Master of Education degree from Cambridge College, USA. Her thesis intended to demonstrate how the study of music in any form substantially contributes to higher levels of academic achievement. One of the goals was to help music educators motivate their students to participate more readily and often during class and to aid them with other subjects such as mathematics, by increasing focus and linking concepts. The book stimulates the imaginations of young readers while preparing them for the language of music and all the benefits that it encompasses. Genre: Fantasy, Ages: 7 and up

Reviews

"""A Stringy Situation is a pure delight! Dora Gray skillfully takes us on a journey filled with challenges, suspense and the power of listening to one's own heart. It will regale children and adults alike. A Stringy Situation shares a music appreciation with children and the love of family with us all. My daughter and I adopted each other which makes this book a joy to read and reread."" --Kim D. Brandon, Writer/Poet, Founding member of the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture Writers Group. ""An enchanting tale which inspires young readers to travel with the characters to historically fictional places. It truly stirs the souls of future musicians."" --Vincent Ferguson, Founder of Body Sculpt of New York City and creator of the Children's Sports and Fitness Expo, Speaker, Author, and United States Navy Veteran. ""Dr. Dora Gray's book, A Stringy Situation, is masterful. the way she intertwines actual human occurrences, with her main characters being stringed instruments, is nothing short of brilliant. The messages in this book, to the young and not so young, alike, make this a must-read. I highly recommend A Stringy Situation to a world that is in desperate need of positive input at all levels."" --Melvin Blackman, Author, and Founder of The Burning House Project, Inc. New York. ""What I like about the book is that it gives the reader a surprising view because of the way it is written and the words that are used. This book makes me want to learn about instruments because while reading the story, I wondered how many instruments there are and how to play them; especially sad and happy tones in violins. I definitely would recommend this book to my peers and teachers because it inspired me."" --Kennedy Walker, 6th Grade St. Marks Day School, Brooklyn, NY. ""One thing that I liked is that every character was an instrument of some sort, and every time the boy was looking for his parents, the instrument that wasn't his parent got bigger and bigger. The book encourages me to learn about a lot of instruments like the cello, guitar, violin and more. I would recommend it to a lot of people; especially my school. The book will encourage people to learn how to play instruments just like me."" --Jordan Walker 7th Grade, St. Marks Day School, Brooklyn, NY."
