Overview

"This work is intended as a research tool for those linguists or students working in the area of variety studies and interested in Irish English, who wish to gain quick access to material relevant to their needs. It is divided into three main sections. The first, ""An Historical Outline"", offers a synopsis of the diachronic development of Irish English, both in the North and South of the country. The second, ""Research Themes"", gives an introduction to those matters which are of particular concern in the field of Irish English studies. Certain issues occur in variety linguistics in general and also in studies on Irish English so that those working on varieties are frequently interested in what contribution studies of Irish English can make to matters of broader concern. The third section, ""Annotated Bibliography"", forms the body of the book. It is a structured bibliography of those works which concern themselves, directly or indirectly, with Irish English."
