She married her husband in 2016 and shortly after graduated from the University of Tennessee with her degree in social work. For years she worked in the Department of Children's Services. After being convinced by her husband, Jodi decided to publish her first book by turning her story into an illustrated children's book. Mason Dakota (real name Mason Powell) was born at Fort Bragg in 1995. He grew up most of his life outside of Knoxville, Tennessee where he met his wife, Jodi, and graduated from Johnson University.
