A Short History of Queer Parenting

Audio Format

Overview

For straight couples, starting a family tends to be straightforward . . . For queer couples, not so much. But queer families have always existed--even Sappho, the OG lesbian, had a daughter. She named her Cleis, in honor of vaginas everywhere! Exploring the historic lives of queer parents like Oscar Wilde and the women of 'The Golden Orchid Society'--and guided by her own experience of reciprocal IVF--Kirsty Loehr provides another rollicking guide to the ups and downs of queer parenthood through the ages.

Author Information

Kirsty Loehr is a writer and English teacher. She has a master's degree in transnational creative writing and loves women, football, history, and comedy-but not necessarily in that order. She is the author of A Short History of Queer Women and A Short History of Queer Parenting. She lives in Brighton with her son. Jennifer Smith adores telling stories and bringing characters to life-she can't think of a better job! There is nothing more perfect than reading or listening to a story that sucks you in and wraps you up in a new world. Tear jerking romances, thrillers and mystery, as well as YA lit, are all found on her bookshelves and in her audio library. When Jennifer's not reading or listening to stories, she's writing them, or binge-watching Netflix. Jennifer has an MA in medieval history and has worked in the legal world for a number of years, in addition to being heavily involved in coaching women's artistic gymnastics. She has a warm and smooth British (general/BBC) voice, and she's comfortable with a soft South Wales accent and a general West Country accent. Jennifer lives in the Midlands with her husband and two children.
