They were positioned on the high walls or watchtower. They were responsible for detecting potential threats and sounding the alarm. If anybody tried approaching the city, vineyards, etc., the watchmen would warn the people. All believers can be prophetic, but not all believers are prophets (1 Corinthians 14:1). The office of a prophet is a vital role in the Body of Christ. Some people are gifted with the ability to prophesy but are not necessarily prophets. Remember Revelation 19:10. The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. All Godly prophets and prophecies come from Jesus Christ. Everything else is demonic. Prophets are directed and appointed by God (Jeremiah 1:5-9) and only speak what God says. They hear God's voice and accurately declare God's message."
