Overview

With the ever-increasing demands placed on our parish leaders, what can seminaries do to prepare priests to deal with the difficult issues they will face? In addition to formation in priestly spirituality and pastoral care, future pastors require lasting support as they discern the call to priesthood and prepare to enter parish leadership after ordination. Filled with valuable information for supporting seminarians in their ongoing formation, A Seminarian's Toolbox provides practical tools and guidance for achieving best practices in parish leadership.   This book is a project of The Leadership Roundtable, a nonprofit organization of Catholic lay leaders, religious, and clergy working together to promote best practices in the formation of clergy and lay leaders in the United States. Reviews

"""Bringing best practices of leadership to the church has been the hallmark of Leadership Roundtable since its inception. I applaud this book that is designed to support those men nearing Ordination as they prepare to serve in a new and vital way in parish life."" Rev. Renato J. Bautista, Director of Formation, Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology, West Orange, New Jersey -- (11/3/2023 12:00:00 AM) ""The revised Program of Priestly Formation identifies four stages of propaedeutic, discipleship, configuration and vocational synthesis. Leadership Roundtable has responded to this with a text targeted for seminarians as they prepare to transition from seminary to parish and priestly service. I commend them for their vision and support of the church."" Cardinal Joseph Tobin, Archdiocese of Newark, New Jersey -- (11/3/2023 12:00:00 AM) ""There is a direct link to parish vitality and those in leadership. At times, priests stumble in the basics of leadership and this book offers a broad spectrum of sound advice and wisdom to strengthen and augment their skills as they transition from being seminarians to the gift and challenge of priestly ministry. The whole people of God can benefit from our priests being well-informed leaders who are open to ongoing formation from the authors of this book who are experts in their fields."" Bishop David L. Toups, Diocese of Beaumont, Texas -- (11/3/2023 12:00:00 AM) ""This book is a timely and valuable resource for seminary rectors and formators to prepare and implement the changes to pastoral formation required by the new Program of Priestly Formation, and to equip newly ordained priests to assume future responsibilities as pastors."" Rev. Andrew Turner, Rector of Saint Mary Seminary, Cleveland, Ohio-- (11/3/2023 12:00:00 AM)"
