A Rising Star

Overview

Rescued from sure death as a newborn baby by Prince Yesha, heir to the United Universe, Esti is left to be raised by the primitive Iti clan. Her differences make her a target of terrible abuse but as soon as she is old enough she escapes, unknowingly accompanied by Ra'ah, her invisible guardian and her adopted brother, Kriek. After braving difficult circumstances, Esti and Kriek end up at the coastal village of Lagun where Daniah, the strange medicine woman who has lived there for centuries, takes both children into her home. Daniah teaches them all she knows and the wild young woman soon excels at natural medicine and archery, while her brother proves an invaluable help on her homestead. For all that Daniah teaches Esti, there is still much she hides, starting with the fact that she is the co-ordinator for the underground Resistance, a movement set on toppling King Lozano, the evil tyrant who rules their simple world thanks to the powerful technology he stole from Genna, the capital planet of the United Universe. Every four years King Lozano holds a life-or-death singing competition in Taberah, the capital city of inhabited Earth, and the Resistance plans to enter a team of musicians consisting of undercover Resistance members. If they win, they will gain entrance to The Comet, Lozano's stolen spaceship-turned-palace. But they need a lead singer who can take the team all the way to the palace. Unknown to them Esti has a voice of gold and volunteers to audition, surprising everyone. During this time Prince Yesha is sent to Earth to help the Resistance and retrieve The Key that Lozano stole when he left Genna in the Great Rebellion. An unexpected romance blossoms between him and Esti, which is as pure as it is fierce. She is heartbroken when she discovers who he really is, the night before leaving for the Rising Star Competition, and the revelation almost jeopardizes the entire mission. We follow the intense ordeal that the Resistance's selected musical team, Silver Moon, go through as they compete in the grim Rising Star competition. After a nail biting ending we are left to wonder if Esti and the team will be strong enough to fulfil their mission onboard The Comet?
