Overview

A personal history of life, and an attempt to answer questions often asked. What was it like living on a Navajo reservation? What was it like in Brooklyn, New York? What was it like moving from Brooklyn to a reservation when you were nine? This memoir may introduce the biographer as exotic, but of course I am only human. My concern is for the reader to relate to my experience, not to publish a manuscript that would make the labels I live with seem further outlandish. So it is with sympathy that I impart my memory to you, hoping that it will be read with an open mind. Presented here are reflections on a life lived primarily inside my own head, but surrounded by cultures others always ask me about. Although I thought nothing about how unusual the experience was at the time (and how much more unusual it would get), now I understand the question, What was that like? This is a journal, a diary, of what I remember. The subjects of this short memoir are myself and anyone lucky enough to entertain my memory. It would not have mattered where I lived if If I hadn't had friends. Luckily enough I did, and of course some were in Brooklyn, and others on the reservation. As the major locus of awareness in this memoir is myself, I should admit that I don't know if I am truly from either location, but I am still from both. It is an unusual experience to here about at first, but for some reason, I really think many readers will relate to the circumstances that caused me to develop a religion of sanity.
