He is the founding faculty member and Chair of the CHFS Program. His research relates the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child to the child welfare field, with a particular focus on child welfare paradigms and caregiving. R. Brian Howe holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Toronto. He is a professor emeritus and former director of the Children's Rights Centre at Cape Breton University. He has published six books and numerous articles on human rights policy, children's rights, and children's rights education. Katherine Covell holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Toronto. She is a professor emerita and former executive director of the Children's Rights Centre at Cape Breton University. She has acted as a national and international advocate for children, and has published widely on children's rights and child development, including the UN report Violence against Children in North America (2005).
